Excitement is building  as 120 players tee it up this Saturday each hoping they can hold their nerve  and produce that winning score  to capture  the Captain’s ( Michael Denihan) Prize. The qualifying rounds last Saturday & Sunday produced some excellent scoring in relatively benign conditions with the course presented in pristine condition. Paul Jennings (8) led the qualifiers on Saturday with 40pts,  with Con McNamee (18) the leading qualifier on Sunday  also with 40pts edging out Pat Lalor (21) ” a former Captain’s Prize winner” on the back 9 with the same score. However while these 3 players will be teeing it up late in the afternoon, they are unlikely to have it all to themselves. There are more than 40 players within 5 points of the leaders including a recent Captain’s Prize winner Paraic Whelan on 37pts and a number of seasoned campaigners. Jack McDonnell holds a strong position  for the Gross title with an opening round of level par 36pts.  So with favourable weather conditions forecasted for the weekend we are in for an exciting days golf and a great nights entertainment. Best wishes to our Captain Michael and best of luck to all the players
