Captains Prize Winners

The beautiful summer conditions greeted all competitiors for the Captain’s ( Ray Gregan) Prize & the Lady Captain’s ( Laura Dooley ) Prize throughout the qualifying and  final stages of these much sought after majors. First up it was Ray’s Prize, and John Beckett ( 23) posted the best score of the qualifying stages with a great score of 67, closely followed by a number of 68’s & 69’s. Lurking in the shadows was  Paul Lyons playing off 9 handicap who qualified on 72 but then produced a brilliant 68 on the final day to claim victory. There were some notable scores from our Intermediate members who were ineligible to claim the main prize Ciaran Lattin (17) who claimed the 2nd prize on a great score of 135 &  Christopher Slattery (12) on 138 for 3rd.  Jack McDonnell won the Gross on  146 with a brilliant bounce back 69 on the final day and the winner of the Captains Prize to Juveniles was Cian Brady (28) with a great score of 36 pts.

The Lady Captain Laura’s prize was an extremely close encounter in the final shake up. However the qualifying round produced some excellent scoring with Marie Purdue (29) well ahead of the field with a magnificent score of 46pts followed by Maeve Duffy (20) on 42pts and the next nearest consisted of  six players on 38pts. One might have expected the likely winner to emerge from this group of 8, but as we all know in golf it is extremely difficult to predict the outcome when the pressure is applied on the final day. So it was consistency that won the day with Tina Shevlin (20) adding 36pts to her opening 37pts to claim the coveted Lady Captain Laura’s Prize on a final score of 73pts just edging out Jacqui Donnelly (15) by the narrowest of margins on 72, with Marie McKeown (28) and leading qualifier Marie Purdue both on 71. Best gross was won by the ever consistent Rachel McGivern and Shannon Mohan (15) claimed the Juvenile Girls trophy.

Congratulations to all the Prize Winners
