It has been a great couple of weekends for our Jimmy Bruen Team. On Saturday the 16th they took on 17 other clubs from North Dublin /Leinster and qualified in 2nd place at Roganstown to qualify for the matchplay stages. On Sunday the 24th the players were greeted with beautiful sunshine as they set out in the early morning against the might of Co Louth. Having been down in 4 of the matches early on they rallied on the back 9 to win comfortably 3.5 to 1.5. The final v a very youthful Dundalk side in the afternoon produced some brilliant golf and again we found ourselves down in 3 of the matches but again our team upped the tempo on the back 9 and early wins produced by Dean Duffy & Paddy McMahon 6/5, & Conor McMahon & Pat O’Brien 4/3 spurred on the top match which was nip & tuck all the way with many birdies exchanged. A sublime tee shot on the tricky par 3 17th sent on its way by Padraic Robinson finished just 4ft above the pin and Sam Carpenter duly rolled in the birdie put to take Forrest Little into a decisive 1 hole lead. However there was more drama to follow on the closing par 5 18th, when Dundalk chipped to 4ft. Sam rolled in a 7 footer for regulation par after Padraic’s lenghty put ran past. With bated breath the large gathering of supporters and players from both sides around the closing green watched the Dundalk player studying his shortish putt and when he made the stroke many of the Forrest fraternity expected it to drop and down 19, but after many a heartbreak this year, it was our time and the putt slipped by the hole and celebrations on the 18th commenced.
Next up it’s a Leinster Quarter Final match v Co Meath ( Trim ) in Headfort Old Course on Sunday the 8th July @ 3.00pm and we look forward to seeing as many supporters as possible on the day
