Senior Cup Team win through to Leinster Quarter Finals

Congratulations to our Senior Cup Team: Allan Kiernan, Sean Broe,  Luke O’Dwyer, Jamie Doyle, Karl Kiernan on a fantastic performance over the weekend in coming through the qualifying stages at Corrstown and into the Leinster Quarter Finals.

21 teams teed it up  on Saturday in the stroke play qualifying round with the top 8 teams qualifying for the match play stages. Our team put up a superb performance with Allan & Sean both under par and Luke,Karl & Jamie packing in to produce a tremendous team score of 286 to lead the qualifiers and 2 shots clear of the big guns The Island & Royal Dublin and the much fancied Portmarnock some 11 shots back but making it through to the match play stages. On Sunday morning we were drawn against Royal Tara and for much of this match we  appeared to be in control of 2 matches but struggling in the remaining 3.  Both Allan & Sean came through victorious and eventually it came down to the deciding match with Jamie Doyle who was keeping our slim hopes of progressing at 2 down with 2 to play. After his opponent was in trouble on 17 Jamie played a delightful bunker shot to win the hole and then brought great cheers from the large Forrest Little following when winning the difficult 18th with par and into extra time. Some great puts were exchanged on the 19th & 20th and eventually it came down to Jamie holding his nerve in sinking the all important 5ft put on the 21st  to take Forrest Little into the afternoon match v Links Portmarnock . The Forrest Little team built on the momentum of their morning success and never looked in trouble throughout the afternoon and coasted to victory winning the first 3 matches and into the Leinster Quarter Finals to the great cheers of the many excited supporters. Incidentally The Island claimed the 2nd qualifying spot but gone are the likes of Portmarnock & Royal Dublin. Well done to all and we now look forward to the upcoming Quarter Finals
